The Design Process
From first ideas to a finished landscape.
A beautiful landscape begins with thoughtful planning. Studio L.V.'s design process brings together site, architecture, planting, materials, and lifestyle to create a cohesive vision for your property.
01 — Consultation
Every project begins with a conversation.
We discuss your goals, how you envision using the space, your aesthetic, priorities, and budget. This initial conversation establishes the foundation for the design and helps determine the right scope for your project.
02 — Site Analysis
Before designing, we look closely at what is already there.
Site measurements, photographs, existing conditions, grading, architecture, views, circulation, and environmental considerations are documented and evaluated. Understanding the property is essential to creating a design that belongs there.
03 — Concept Design
Ideas begin to take shape.
Hand sketches, diagrams, imagery, and preliminary plans explore layout, character, circulation, planting, and outdoor living opportunities. This stage establishes the overall direction before moving into detailed design.
04 — Master Plan
The concept becomes a complete plan.
Detailed CAD drawings define the landscape layout, including planting areas, hardscape, structures, circulation, and other site elements. The master plan provides a clear framework for bringing the design to life.
05 — Planting Design
Planting brings the landscape to life.
Plant selections are carefully considered for color, texture, scale, seasonality, growing conditions, and long-term performance. The result is a planting palette that complements the architecture while changing and evolving throughout the year.
06 — Construction Support
Good design continues through implementation.
Studio L.V. can provide construction support and coordination to help translate the design into the finished landscape. Throughout the process, the goal remains the same: to ensure the details and intent of the design carry through to the built space.
